We’ve been Virgin Media customers for the last 6 years. One of the things that we looked for moving into our house was a decent net connection. Search for a show and it will show you everywhere it’s available – that includes in the iPlayer and Netflix apps as well as TV on Demand and catchup TV.  The addition of the ability to stream 4k TV is also a plus but you’ll need a TV capable of handling it and there isn’t much streamable content.

In short if you’re already a Virgin Media customer and they offer you a free upgrade jump at it – the faster navigation speed makes it worthwhile by itself and the 4K abilities have to start to be useful some time. As a paid upgrade it’s still somewhat sensible with much more storage space to record TV. The best that can be said about the V6 is that it’s small and discreet. It’s a plain black with a single color changing LED and is good enough to keep all the cables hidden around the back. The remote is RF rather than infra-red so doesn’t need line of sight so you can tuck the whole unit out of the way and forget about it. We didn’t have any issues with fan noise or overheating but it did get warm so piling things on top of it or completely covering it is probably a bad idea. The V6 and older TIVO boxes can cooperate over a network and share resources and storage space.
